20D CR2 the same as 40D CR2? And other Questions.

I am interested in buying a 40D. But I would like to know from someone that knows for sure if the CR2 file of the 20D is the exact same file system used in the 40D? Or will I have to update me Photoshop yet again?

Also does the 40D have better noise control? Anyone know if the noise control on the 40D is as good as the OLD 1D MKII?

Lastly, something happened to my ability to view RAW files on my sucky vista windows computer. Does anyone know how to make it so Image Viewer is able to view them again? Thanks.

Youll have to update ACR in order for it to read 40D raw files. Or you can just use DPP that comes with the camera.

last i checked, can't use cs2 to open the 40d files. i had to download adobe dng converter. it works, but i still can't open the small raw files.

DPP can. It does the job better and its free.

Same file format (not counting sRaw), but the 40D has a different sensor which is only understood by ACR updates that are restricted to CS3.

You'll either have to update to CS3 or use DNG as an intermediate format if you want to keep using Adobe Camera Raw. From what I hear, ACR in CS3 has quite a few advancements over CS2, so it might be worth it to just pay the freight.
