These are some of the wild horses of Corolla, North Carolina. They are in the wild on the northern parts of the Outer Banks.

Those are good shots. They don't seem too spooked by your presence.
(We raise quarter horses). Do you know if they capture/cull/sell them out there like they do with the mustangs out here (west)?

It's cool to see them at the water's edge.

I don't believe they get captured and sold. The adult ones actually will walk close to you at times. They didn't appear afraid at all. I could tell they were protective of the young though. It was really cool to see them on the beach like that.

Cool shots... We're going down that way in a couple of weeks. Did you find them yourself or do the guide thing?

In the years before the corralled them up on the more northern parts of the beaches past Corolla... I have pictures of them roaming as far south as Ocean Sands in and around the houses.... Some lovely horses...

I found them on my own. If you have a 4x4 vehicle you are allowed to drive on the northern beaches. You take route 12 north from Nags Head as far as it goes, about 45 minutes, the you can drive on the beach access road, which is the beach. I went up there four times and saw horses on three of them. Morning and evening are better just like for any wildlife. There are a few places that rent jeeps if you don't have a 4x4 and of course you could also do a tour.
