EDIT: Unfortunately all my original image links are now broken. My photographs are now hosted at Flickr and on my website. Links to both of these sites are in my signature section.

Apologies for any broken image links that are now showing in any of my threads or posts.

Thanks,

Mike

Very good shots but the oversaturated colors are distracting, IMO.

Thanks Synapxe and JED :-)

The level of colour saturation was intentional, but I am interested to hear opinions on this in particular. If I get too many complaints I might have to tone down the colour in the next ones!

Both are nice, but a bit dark. I like the first one best.

:)

the scenery is really stunning Mike:cool: , but did you add light later to the foreground of the two shots at the start of the thread ?
the sky gives me the impression the sun shone elsewhere

lol

Thanks Marie :-)

I didn't add light as such, but I increased the contrast and saturation in the area where the sheep are, to add emphasis to them as the foreground subjects and at the same time balance the darkness of the sky. The sun shining through the clouds can be seen lighting the countryside in the middle distance. The dark clouds were actually quite a distance away and the area where I photographed from didn't have the heavy cloud cover directly above, so the lighting was brighter but diffused. I expect that might be contributing to the unusual lighting.

With the second photograph it was much the same situation, with heavy cloud approaching, but not directly over me. I darkened some of the immediate foreground to concentrate the eye onto the lane, which was intended to then lead the eye down the lane towards the sun breaking through the clouds! :-)

thanks Mike

I see the light in the middle ground. I understand what you say
it can happen with dark clouds scattering across the sky (which I love for a scene like it) it throws diffused lighting everywhere and highlights some spots where you maybe rather the other spots were 'hit' and lit
all in all the scenery is wonderful

The above photograph shows King's Lane which actually runs along one of the hill fort's northern ramparts, down to the village of Powerstock.

must be lovely to walk that walk

Two bracketed exposures blended, with assorted dodge & burn, contrast enhancements and colour adjustment.

I think that scene could be beautiful left as natural as possible

just taking the picture and maybe the very slightest use of levels in elements (or whatever ps you have) later

Thanks Marie :-)

King's Lane is nice to walk down (if you like walking at 35mph), but you need mountaineering equipment to 'walk' back up! During the winter it gets icy so if driving down you have to use the bank as a brake.

You wouldn't say that if you saw the original images! Seriously though, because I bracketed the exposure due to the relative light levels, no single image would suffice. The most unnatural-looking part of the photograph for me is the sky, but in fact that is almost exactly as photographed, including the colours, the bulk of the work being concentrated on the foreground.

Great shots.
Surprised, you make dull old Dorset look so beautiful ;)
I'm joking of course
Has to be the unspoilt county in the UK.

Thanks Marie and Scrumpy :-D

Yes, definitely one of the most unspoilt counties! The weather forecast is looking good, so I'll be heading up there with the camera again.
