Gorgeous green forests! It was nice today so we took a little 10 mile hike to a lake up on a mountain. Great fun, but my feet sure as hell hurt! I didn't want to haul my tripod along for 10 miles however, so clarity and camera shake in the dense woods was tough on these pics...

You have some extreme CA that needs cleaning up in all of you shots. Just our of curiosity what lens were you using?

I guess you have not been to Texas ;). Many places look like that, if not a bit more dense with trees...

You beat me to it. Mitch, if you ever make it to Texas, I think that you will be very surprised what you will find. It is not the dusty desert depicted in the old western movies.

Many people think that all of Texas looks like the Texas pan handle.

Fringing aside, they're all very nice shots.

I've seen this kind of artifact when I've pushed the saturation too far. I wonder if the OP has done this.

Not to get too far off, but I was born in OK about 20 Miles from TX. I love Colorado, but sometimes miss that part of the country.

I think that what I see in the images, especially #2 is the result of using layers and masking to "paint" in a more saturated sky. For most of these images, it would be a thankless task ... given all of the branches. For the second image, it would work better with a softer brush, i.e. larger diameter and much lower opacity at the transition between sky and trees. My Skagway, Alaska image (thread title: "the only blue box in town ...") is an example of using layers and masking to apply a sky layer with lower exposure and a custom gamma curve.

I also see what appears to be indications of using too much Fill light to open up dark areas. Don't ask me how I know what this looks like.
