Just took a look at it and well, not really that impressed. 15mp over 10mp - hmm... great, bigger filesizes. woot ISO 6400 and 12800 - g0t noise? Oh I dunno... it remains to be seen how noisy it is - if Nikon can do it, and be still very usable at ISO 6400, I don't see why Canon can't too. high res LCD - yeah, alright i guess Still not high res enough, but a LOT better than what we've all been putting up with. A decent high res LCD could allow you to zoom in and check focus at the scene rather than being very disappointed at home. 2 user setting modes over 3 - why?? why scrap one of these in favour of 'creative auto'?

I have to comment that USPS has completely suprised me. I ordered three items from the US last week... one shipment from B&H, one from Markins, and one from RRS. B&H and Markins on Tuesday, and RRS on Wednesday. B&H and Markins both shipped via UPS and arrived Monday. RRS shipped USPS and arrived today! good work USPS and US$60 cheaper!Just waiting on the loctite to dry, and woah baby is it purdy Thanks Jim and Nick for your advice... oh and excuse the dust ![]() Dust already? That's appalling!

Okay, I see the RRS and Markins but what came from B&H? And I should've shared the shipping cost with you from RRS. I'm looking at the BH40 for the MF4 I also got on Monday ![]() lol I wouldn't mind checking out your MF4 sometime... I'm seriously contemplating trading across to the MF4 (as opposed to the MF3). IIRC, you can get 6400iso on the 1DmkIII and 1DsMkIII via custom function. My name is Rob.

Yeah, I hadnt thought about that. But the way I saw it, the D300 is a great camera but look at how much cheaper the 40D is selling for. DAdeGroot wrote in post #6180819 Yeah, odd that, I would have thought with the 1000d and 450d out there, the 50d could have scrapped the basic modes entirely (like the 5D and 1 series). I think i remember saying something similar this time a year ago. Carjo wrote in post #6181880 IIRC, you can get 6400iso on the 1DmkIII and 1DsMkIII via custom function. Yeah, but the 1d3 and the 1ds3 both have larger sensors (significantly larger in the 1ds3's case). Given how speckly 3200 can get already, i dunno. Guess it comes down to how they handle their noise reduction. Carp - flickr

I was comparing it to the 3021 and, as I was collapsing it, the rubber cap on the foot of one of the legs came off and the lower section shot up into the upper ones. I had to remove two of the leg clamps to get the thing out again. I'm hoping the end cap just wasn't on properly. If it happens again I'll be making sure those caps never come off. Aside from that I do think it will make a good little travelling pod. I replaced the center column with their shorter one so it now weighs in at 1860g as opposed to the 2640g of the 3021. But, the weight wasn't really a concern. I wanted it for it's reduced length when folded. Makes it easier to carry it on the bike or attached to the backpack. I, personally, wouldn't use it as my main tripod. If I was travelling by car and didn't have to move around a lot when shooting I'd stick with the 3021. It takes half as long to setup/collapse and, because of the extra weight, it gives the impression it's more sturdy (even though that may not necessarily be the case). Generally speaking I prefer a bit of heftiness. That's why I steered away from the Gitzos too. I'd rather carry an extra kilo then pay over twice as much for a set of legs that weigh less than my camera. Thanks for the write up Nick. Feng
