And now back to nothing. Had the chance to send of a text message before it went down again.

Cant even get anything out with roaming selected so it looks like telstras 2g is really struggling too.

Yeah Optus cable cut, backup overloaded and failed by the looks of things. Talk about a telecommunications black hole.

Anyway my 70-200 arrived 2 days earlier than expected (wow) so of course I took it for a test run on the dogs. I must say, Very impressed thus far.

I didnt notice what had happened until he told me.

Oh and i found out that the phone problem isnt just me. Optus has had something very very very bad go wrong with their line between sydney and here. Which seems to have knocked out most of the state's and far northern NSW's phone and internet services. It also means that three and virgin are down along with them.

The most recent contact from someone with any real sounding information said it could last a day or a week. Even the 11am ETA for repair that was thrown around earlier could spell disaster for some people. Heck, as a last resort, I dialled 000 from my mobile and had no connection.

I picked today to work from home and finish an assignment, so not too fussed about lack of phones.

Oh, and apparently instead of 000 on mobiles, the emergency number to use when none other works is 112 - works even if you are not within your/a network connection.

Hmm... Im guessing quite a few people might be using Optus or iinet or some other optus related provider for their internets...

Possible fix by 11am. Seems to have affected all of QLD and parts of NSW and VIC. And others cant dial 000 either. Could be a bit of a disaster day for a lot of people.

Yeah Whirlpool reports it was a cable cut and a hardware fault on the backup circuit. Various EFTPOS/BPay services are offline across Brisbane (went shopping this morning, half the transactions were manual or cash).

No probs here with Internode, Telstra (landline) and Vodafone (mobile).

Oh, anyone bought a lightstand from Dragon Image ? If so, what do you think of the stands ? Sturdy ?

I need a couple more (and umbrella brackets) in a hurry (Magazine Cover shoot on Thursday). Alternatively, anyone have pricing on Manfrotto Nano 001's in Brisbane ?

Not I - haven't gone the three yet. Awaiting time to pass to see if there are any issues with it first.

What does Alt-S do ?

Hmmm... Alt-Shift-s = Í
Alt-s = ß

Cmd s brings up a save dialog
Ctrl s selects the Submit Reply button (Enter to activate)
Ctrl Shift S beeps at me

They are alright. You get what you pay for though.

I will say this, the last two times I went in with dad, they seemed to be very eager to push more expensive products into your hands by saying that they dont have any of product 'x' in stock.

Probably better off going to photocontinental and asking for their best deal on their ~$45 lightstand and their ~$15 umbrella brackets.

Yeah I wasn't overly impressed with Dragon Image last time I was in there.

Ok, PhotoCont sounds like the go, or maybe Kayell at Yerongapilly. (both on the wrong side of town, but you get that).
