In reading the multiple threads on the Genesis Strobes, there is mention of their perceived superior build quality (in some posts) in relation to Alienbees and some other strobes.

To those of you with experience with both lights, have you experienced issues with the build quality of any of these kits?

A follow on, and maybe more basic question - what other features should I be looking for when trying to make a decision on one of the entry level lighting kits?

Thanks,

George

Build quality - make sure they're built well enough to withstand some gentle studio use (don't laugh, but some of the really cheap eBay kits aren't!). After that, the only thing I would concern myself with would be the quality of light that they provide, and the light modifiers and other accessories that are available for them. That is why I chose the D-Lite 4 kit personally - all the stuff that is available for them, plus the fact that they are very consistent in their light output.

I just ordered my first alienbees today. Everything I read led me to believe that they would be more than up to the task. Lexan bodies, if you go plastic, cant be beat. And a two year guarantee? I was sold.

PS Rudi, excellent avatar!

Thanks Ty! And congratulations on your new studio strobes! Good choice. :)

P.S. You can see a larger version of my avatar HERE. (external link) BTW, that was done with the 5D and one off-camera 580EX (seeing that we're in the Flash and Studio Lighting forum... :) ).
