could use my old TC-DC58 with G6 ?-why NOT? - I need partic. comment

In my tech. data of G6 -they wrote " dont use your TC-DC58, but TC-DC58N only "
--but WHAT realy could happen..? ( if not dist. only...)

The TC DC58 is threaded whereas the G6 takes a bayonet type. I believe that the original adapter will not even fit. When I get my G6 next week, I too will be seeing if I can SAFELY rig something up with my DC58. I hate being ripped for about $60 (Canadian) for a piece of Canon plastic.
