you can get court side with the pros at this event. Might go again so any tips welcome. I was using MK3 with 70-200f2.8 IS. This seemed to be a popular combo with the pros though some also sported a 300 2.8 which at that range must be for upper body shots.

First off, these are really nice, especially "C. Nland". On the feet thing, the answer is yes.

that's what I thought, need full or half body basically. Turned out the name was misspelt - should be Conor Niland of Eire, world ranked 304.

i don't think it matters on the feet thing, i as the viewer don't really care, but if there is a protocol for magazines that buy pro photos, maybe..

my take on the photos are wonderfull shots..

good job..

contrast is not much on my monitor, but maybe it is at correct level, i would bump up saturation just a tad and they will pop out just a bit more.

still wonderful captures and to be court side during qualy's is cool too..

Everything was spot on, its a little distracting now that you mentioned his feet (the Martin Fischer shot) was cut off like that... still a great shot though!

Hiya Toby,

Bet that surprised you, me popping up here  lovely shots, I particularly like the shot of C.Nland & the way you managed to capture the muscle form & the shear effort, one can almost hear the grunt !!
Unfortunately for some reason the Feeney shot won't load up only half an inch showing, guess its a glitch my end.

Well its back to the small stuff

Cheers for now
Mark

upped the contrast and saturation a tad on this one but we see another problem - choosing angles with backgrounds that do not distract plus the ball is too close to the frame:

Nice clean pictures, excellent focus and definition. Personally I would have liked to see his feet included on the fifth.

Yep, sometimes you can go real tight and try to get a face (hard), go loose if you can get high up in the stands, or even sometimes cut off at the middle of the thighs or at the waist. Search a well know photo stock site like Getty (external link) for some more examples. But in all honesty, 3 and 4 are both excellent images! Nice work :)

Great shots mate. All very crisp, tight and full of emotion and feeling.

Being a massive n00b do you mind me asking how you focus? Are they auto or manual focused, and if auto, which ai mode?

Nice work.

On your poll, I vote to not cut off feet like that.

Very nice shots and great expressions. I love the last shot, that's my favorite of the set. Well done!
