Leaking U/W Canon Case WP DC300

Hi All,

I just bought a second hand underwater case (WP DC300) and perfectly knew what I was risking.....anyway, I tested it in my bathtub (without the camera) without greasing the O-ring and found out that the case was leaking.
I was just wondering if the leak could due to the fact that the O ring hasn't been greased up (the O ring seems to be in fairly good condition though) or if it can be due to something else (all the buttons seem to be ok as well...).

It would be great if you can help me pinpoint where the problem is....

Grease the O-ring and test it again? That is, if you're sure that it's leaking from the O-ring.

housing rarely leak at the buttons... i ahve allways seen them leak at the primary oring and 9 out of 10 times its from a nick or a fine peice of hair.

Clean the oring, lube the oring an clean the joint on the housing and try again. If not replace the oring. if it was left in storage closed then the oring can be compressed try soaking it in warm water.

Good advice Remember when you do lube the oring that it is just a teensy amount, no blobbies.

It is also a good idea to do a "super soaker" to make sure that all the gunk and stuff you can't really see is gone as much as possible. While housings do not often leak through the buttons, they certainly can as there are little orings in there, too, and often a housing doesn't get as thoroughly cleaned as it should.

Here's my super soaker routine that I do every once in a while and every time a button or lever just feels a little different:
1 - nice warm water, not hot, but leaning that way. Add a squirt of dish washing liquid
2 - immerse housing and leave it completely submerged for at least 20 minutes
3 - after the 20 minutes, work all buttons and levers very gently
4 - nice warm water rinse (running water)...again, work all buttons and levers
5 - dry it off and see if it feels good again and looks perfect. If not, repeat process.

I've been doing this for 10+ years with a whole variety of housings and it's worked a treat each time. Salt build up, hard water residue, teensy particles of lord knows what - this seems to do the trick.
