This month is just out. Camera of the year awards announced.

40D and XSi win their categories. 1Ds loses to D3 in pro category.

Lifes good.

Thought it interesting that they put the Nikon D300 in a different category than the 40D.

6D, G9, Sigma 50 1.4, Sigma 15mm Fisheye, Sigma 50 2.8 macro, Nikon 14-24G 2.8, Canon 16-35 2.8 II, Canon 24-105 f/4 IS, Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, tripod, lights, other stuff.

I know nothing of the D3, but I would definitely class the D300 above the 40D. That way Canon can get another win! :)

I would agree that the XSi and 40D are much better than similar cameras (D60 or D80), but the D300 is amazing. I would rank the 5D higher IMO, but can't comment on the best of the best.

It is indeed interesting. As you get into the "prosumer" level cameras, it becomes harder to compare apples to apples between Canon and Nikon relative to feature set and price.

The beauty is that the prosumer models tend to pick up more and more features from the "big brothers" at more restrained prices as each company fights for market share. If you're patient enough, you can pretty much count on scoring a remarkable camera as the two continue to duke it out.

Agreed. We will also all benefit from the sabre rattling at Sony.

I was disappointed to see that they rated several levels of SLR and then camera phones, but nothing on point-and-shoots. That's just as well.. I just ordered a SD950 IS, for my P&S needs.
