Hi,

Can anyone put my mind at rest regarding a problem I have with my flash please?

I have not had it long, and have not noticed the noise as I had nothing to compare it with. However, I was with a friend last night who owns a 580, and he was supprised at the noise the flash makes when it zooms.

Is this normal for this flash, or is there something wrong with mine?

Thanks,

Gareth

If you mean a noise like a point and shoot camera "zooming" then thats fine :) All good on the flash front.

I wouldn't think that the sound of the head zooming on the 430EX would be any different from that of the 580EX. Did he say what was odd about your flash? Was it too loud? Too harsh?

It seemed loud to him, although he had never used 430 to compare!

If it's just a little louder, then that shouldn't be a problem. But if it were making a really awful grinding sound and such then I might be concerned. My 580EX II is much louder than my 580EX and, in fact, also sounds much harsher. But I could only tell by comparing them side by side. I'm sure it's that way with your flash, too.

Thanks all for your replies.

I will presume all is OK, as it doesn't worry me and everything else is alright.
