On the Canon AOS Digital Rebel XT what does the various elements mean? If my screen displays the following values

125 8.0 [999] and the viewfinder says 125 8.0 9

Current gear: EOS Digital Rebel XT, HP Photosmart M547, Aiptek DV5100M

Had: Power Shot A70

1/125 sec? I think the 999 is the amount of space left on the card.

The card is a 4gb card, how much space can the XT estimate? When I had a Power Shot A70, I kept upgrading the card and the number kept getting higher to a point where the number stopped at 999 meaning the power shot had no idea how many shots I had left. Essentialy I had unlimited number of shots. I think the XT is telling me the same thing.

its just saying you have more then 1000 shots you can take and 999 is the highest it will count

The monochrome LCD is telling you that the shutter speed is 1/125, the aperture is f/8.0, and you have room for at least 999 photos on your CF card (estimated). You can learn about all of the items on the monochrome LCD on page 14 of the XT/350D manual.

The viewfinder is telling you that the shutter speed is 1/125, the aperture is f/8.0, and you can take at least 9 shots in a continuous burst (estimated). You can learn about all of the items in the viewfinder on page 15 of the XT/350D manual.
