Our beloved G1 met with a Christmas accident and broke the lens. I have an opportunity to get a "dead" G2 and wondered if anyone could tell me if the lens assembly in the G2 is the same as the G1?

it's definitly not the same and will not fit the G1!! mechanical it will but electronic it won't;) believe me i've repaired al lot of them.

but if the G2 is dead it's probably just a blown fuse! and the dc/dc converter is the same on both G1 and G2 so you can probably upgrade to a G2. by putting the dc/dc of the G1 into the G2. and when you are in there, tighten all the screws because a loose screw probably blown the fuse.

also normaly after replacing the lens assembly it needs adjusting! and only canon has this software to do so.

hope this helps
