This is my first post under macro. I generally don't photo bugs but these critters are all over the place this year.

looks more like a Cicada, weird critter whatever.

you're right it is a Cicada... also known (in certain areas) as the seventeen-year locust. there were thousands of them flying around and in the trees. it sounded like space craft from a sci-fi movie was hovering around.

Nice shot. I remember being in St. Louis when the 17 year and (I think) 11 years cicadas came out at the same time. It was unbelievable.
