I went to Filters > Blur only to find Lens Blur is AWOL. It's simply gone. I've used it in the past many times but honestly can't think if I've used it since my hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall Photoshop CS2 on the new hard drive.

Any ideas how I can recover this tool?

Check your 'plugins' folder to see if the 'lens blur' application is listed there, if not, it might have gotten into another folder. You'll need to put it in that folder for it to appear.

C:>program files>adobe>cs2>plugins>filters

Try that. If that fails, try reinstalling the cs2 app.

Try resetting Photoshop to its factory defaults. Double-click on the desktop icon to start the application and the IMMEDIATELY press the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT keystroke combination. You will then see a dialog box asking if you want to delete the Photoshop Preferences file; answer yes and it should be restored.

I did indeed find it in a funny place. I'm on a Mac by the way. I dragged it back into the filters folder and am getting "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

I've had problems uninstalling and reinstalling CS2. There seems to be a difficulty in COMPLETELY uninstalling so when I reinstall things go wonky. I've even had someone who knows computers more than me (which is everyone on this planet) come over and try to fix the install. I'm having a few other minor problems as well with CS2.
I've not been able to download any of the updates either.

Very frustrating.

Hmm, I tried this to no avail. Should mention again that I'm on a Mac. No dialogue box came up. Any other way to get to the Preferences? If I go to the Photoshop task bar, there is a drop down menu that includes Preferences but there is no default setting choice from there.

You can also manually delete your Photoshop Preferences file by using Finder to locate it or navigate to it using the path shown in the link above. Just make sure Photoshop is closed before deleting the Preferences file.

Thanks for the link. I'm now on at least my 10th uninstall. Obviously I'm missing files that should be deleted. The most recent uninstall I did just before I saw your post, so I'll give it one more go before I smash my computer to pieces.

This is what I did

Closed photoshop cs2
Dragged icon to trash
In Applications, dragged Adobe Bridge and Adobe Photoshop CS2 to trash
In applications I left the following alone - Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Help Center

Then I went to Users/user name/Library/Preferences/Adobe PS2 Settings and dumped in trash. Next in the trash was Users/user name/Library/Preferences/Adobe PS2 Paths. Then I emptied the trash can.

I do still have Photoshop Elements. Should I just dump anything and everything related to Photoshop? Not sure if I should get rid of everything adobe. My CS2 is just that, not the suite. Don't know if Illustrator comes on the version I have.

I'm not a Mac user so I cant be of much here there. If the problem is persisting then perhaps there is some hidden setting somewhere that isn't uninstalling.

Searching the HDD for "lens blur", gave me the following:
Users > YOU > Library > Preferences > Adobe > Plugins > Adobe Lens Blur CS2 > Photoshop > Adobe Lens Blur CS2 Prefs

HDD > Applications > Adobe Photoshop CS2 > Plug Ins > Adobe Photoshop Only > Filters > Lens Blur.plugin

As said, starting PSCS2 while holding Opt + Cmd + shift should allow you to reset PS.
