I've got a PC male to Miniphone male cord here and I pulled off the PC end to splice into my flash (or at least try). It's got an inner core of copper wrapped in white and an outer copper wrapped around it. Is the inner copper wire the positive, or is it the negative?

Here's a photo that shows it after I split it out. The one wrapped in white (left) was center and the one on the right was wrapped around that.

The white should be positive. If you know which is positive at the other end you can test it with an Ohm meter.

Not sure on pos or neg, but the center pin on your flash needs to go to the end of the miniphone plug. It doesn't matter much for radio triggers from my experience, but does matter for optical triggers.

Why not use a multimeter to check what conducts via what part of the plug? Either that, or hook up a battery and LED or small light globe to it to create a circuit. Then at least you know which conductor is which. Not sure exactly but usually the tip of the plug is +ve and the outer part is ground.

I don't have my multimeter yet. :D

Thanks for the info guys. Turns out I don't have to make the mod after all, as I was able to fix my Vivitar port and get the Skyports functional with it.

Yeah especially since I'm retarded at mods.

LOL

I just thought of another thing you could do to check the wiring. Wire it up to a car battery then put your tongue across the contacts. It's a 'shockingly' simple way to check. :p
