Just purchased a used 580exll off ebay and am waiting for it as I type.
I tried to buy a new one, but after I ordered, a guy called to me to sell me some accessories and after I declined, my order got mysteriously cancelled!

Anyway, my question was what kind of things should I look for to go wrong with a used 580exll. I just started thinking "why would someone sell a 580 unless there was something wrong with it?"

Is there anything I should look for or test when I get it.

thanks

To test I would manully adjust the zoom head a little and then pop a few flashes in manual. It should be fine...

Thanks guys.
I kind of figured that the exll hasn't been around that long so it must be fairly new and therefore decent condition.
If there was something wrong with it I would probably assume that it was my fault (being a total beginner) and I didn't know how to use it. It sounds like I am not going to be surprised with some dirty little secret about used 580's that everybody knows but me!

Thanks again, I am just really paranoid.

What ever happened to the B&H codes that could be paired with the rebates canon offers? the cheapest i saw a 580II was 315 plus shipping. I thought I got hosed when I bought my 580II for 325 plus shipping... guess not.

I actually did quite a bit of footwork and most of the new ones were $420-450. The new one I tried to order was $360, but that was a scam.
I settled for $330 used.

well, it came in and is absolutely amazing!

I got a lot of info by scanning these threads before laying out big bucks (for me anyway!) on a 580ex ll. I am really glad I took the advice because this thing really is worth every penny:D.

Thanks everyone.
