I take a lot of sunsets and recently tried to shoot people with one. Not sure the OOF sunset works or, for that matter, the whole concept. Comments to improve this type of shot would be appreciated.

Thanks, Flo. I used a 430 EX with my Xti. Sorry there is no exif data but I'm still using PS 5.5 and haven't figured out how to save it (I don't think there is a way). Thought I'd burn the hot spots from the flash in PS.

I think it's good, but I'd dial back on the flash power a bit. The subjects seem a tad too bright compared to the surroundings.

Try flash exposure bracketing the shot next time. See what kind of power output gives you the best result.

That's the reason I asked....it is a bit " Hello!" compared to the surrounding space.

That's a very good idea, LeuceDeuce. I haven't had my flash that long and have never tried it. Thanks.

drag the shutter a bit to capture more of the darkening sky maybe @ 1/30th (or slower on a tripod) and use -1/3 EC on the flash.

Thanks, MasterChief. I will try that as well. Wanted to try these ideas last night but my wife didn't feel like posing.
