Almost decided on the Lowepro Vertex 300--any alternatives?

For Father's Day, my wife got me a brand-spankin' new Tamrac Expedition 8x. Unfortunately, the first time I loaded up the bag (30.2lb including the backpack), the left shoulder strap started ripping where it meets the top of the bag. So it promptly went back to Amazon.com for a refund.

Now I'm almost all set on the Lowepro Vertex 300, but before I get it, I wanted to know if there are any alternatives within the similar price range (~$250) that I should consider. Basically I'm looking for a large backpack to transport my gear (3 D/SLRs, 5-6 lenses, the biggest/longest of which is the EF 70-200mm f/4L, three flashes, PSD, 15.4" laptop, and various accessories) for family gathering weekends and other social events. No airplane travel considerations, and once I'm at the destination I have a Lowepro Fastpack 200 for outings.

Thanks very much in advance.

I have the vertex 200. When I first did my research for a "carry-all" bag, the vertex was the only one I found. 300 or 200 were my options. The 300 was too large for me and if I wanted to carry it on, I was afraid of size restrictions so I opted to go with the 200.

Either the 300 or 200 is my best suggestion for you. I can't comment about what Tamrac or ...wait..

Check out ThinkTank. http://www.thinktankphoto.com (external link)

I'm sure you'll find what you need there. Price point wise, it will have to be something you're willing to go with. Overall if you need more information let me know. For the time being peruse and spark your interest and let me know any questions you may think of.
