Black-Crowned Night-Heron

Over the last few weeks I bought a used Canon 70-300 f/4-5.6 USM IS Lens off of Craig's List and needed a place to go and try it out, where better than in your own backyard? Right down the street from my house there is a walking path called The Riverwalk. I ended up taking several pictures that I was thrilled with. When I upgraded to the Canon 40D body I figured what better place to go than old faithful. I took these on Tuesday and here are a few of my favorites.

Both of these are straight out of the camera, no PP or anything, Resize only.

Always cool to see these birds and your shots remind me that they do frequent faster water than what I am used to seeing them in. I like the first image in particular and with a little boost in the contrast and some sharpenning I think it could be improved. While the water movement is interesting I would like to have seen some with a higher shutter speed to lessen the water movement...These are still nice in any case.

Canon 40D - ISO 400, 1/30th at f/11 / 300mm with Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS hand held.
