Personally, I really like #1, but am not quite sure about #2. What do you think?

It looks like the first one has a little movement blur in the rabbit.

The second pose is cute and would have been better if he was facing you a bit more.

Both are a little cool, possibly because the lighter background fooled your AWB.

Thanks for the comments! :D

For some reason, this guy's fur always looks like that with my camera...it drives me crazy...I wish I could figure out why!

The subject is getting lost in the background. I know there's a term for this, but I'm drawing a blank right now. While this works well as a camoflage against preditors, it doesn't help your image.

In post you can seperate the bunny from the background. Here's a rough edit to illustrate what I'm talking about...

Some EXIF data might help people decipher what the issue is.

Very true... here it is...

...and nice edit! What did you do to bring him out? Use a duplicate layer with style "Multiply"? And erase the bunny on the duplicate layer?

Sort of. I made a duplicate layer and applied curves to darken. Then masked out the bunny. Ran a high pass sharpening (trying out the technique). Dodge & Burn.

Overall I wasn't happy with the contrast, and loss of brown colour in the fur. Hence the rough edit remark. I would do it again trying to maintain more colour in the rabbit.

As for your shooting conditions. In the first shot the only thing I can think of is that you didn't get the focus point bang on. Shutter speed is fine, but the aperature is wide and the focal length long. Calculating the DoF you should have between 1 and 3 ft wide focus plane at a distance of 30 and 50 ft. respectively.

In the second shot you're getting close to the limits of hand-holding that lens at that focal length. Combined with the short focus plane you're going to have to be bang on with focus, and very steady in the hands.

I really like the 'face washing' pose. Very natural and unposed as can be. Well caught!
