Rockford's Kristen Zaleski makes the catch and goes over the center field wall as the Thunder hosted Team Canada.

Nice catch, both of them! I hope she didn't get hurt on the stakes holding up the fencing material.

Wish it had been taken just a hair earlier. At least you were lucky enough to have the people in the background watching. Nothing subtly ruins a shot more than a crowd that couldnt give a damn.

Chris - Nice capture, but I'm with Adam. A hair earlier and the ball would be just above her mitt, which would be a better shot. The best way I have found to do this is to keep both eyes open and time the ball just over the player when firing the shutter.

Quite a catch, though, and a good couple of captures. Thanks for sharing.

That is a great catch, by you and her. Those posts scare me. As a high school coach, i have seen a girl make the near identical catch, with the same post in the County Semifinal. The post went between her ribs and elbow ... but did not touch her. Not a scratch. The next week, for the finals they had giant tennis balls on each stake.

We used that same fence for my HS field this year. We used Tomato posts to hold up the fence. if the girl ran into it, it just bend. Easy fix. Next year, we'll have a real fence. That orange snow fence is now keeping deer out my garden :)

Thanks, Dennis. On plays like this I do try to shoot with both eyes open so I can follow the player but the first shot I took I caught the ball before it hit her glove but it was out of focus just a tad so I tashed it : ( The newspaper still used this shot so it's nice to get it in print.

Really nice shots...and that fence looks very dangerous. I think you just found the poster child for the "new fence fund".

No kidding. She jumped right up and was fine but it does look rather dangerous. The fence is there because their regular field is under water due to the midwest flooding so they had to put up the temp fence to meet league rules.

Those are break-away temporary fences...all made of very flexible plastic. They typically won't hurt the players. They are used to shorten the outfield to regulation length for fast-pitch softball and youth leagues when playing on larger fields.

yes it's just a typical snow fence, but look what would have happened had she jumped and came done stomach (or whatever part) first on one of them posts holding the fence up. organizations use them because they do not have a proper sized field or separate field to play on. Still they are not very safe.
