Smugmug Website

Any advice on posting Large Jpegs in to a Smugmug website. I loaded close to 200 photo's and it took all afternoon. I'm wondering if there is a faster way to post photo's?

If i want to upload a huge batch, i do it when i have acces the the FiOS backbone at work.

Fastest way I have found is to use "Smugbrowser" with Firefox. My upload time was greatly reduced plus it's easy to use.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if you were uploading one-by-one, or if your internet connection's upload speed was the issue.

Typically business internet connections (assuming such incidental, non-work related usage is OK at your work) is much faster than the DSL or cable internet access at home.

I uploaded a bunch at a time and it was fine, but I don't do large files. I do about 600 dpi for 4x6 and call it good. If anyone orders, I was told to replace with better resolution one.

I post nearly 400-600 photo's, 3400x2300, full res Jpeg's , which normally comes out to about 1.3-2.1 GB everytime I shoot an autocross. I usually just start the upload and leave it overnight. The worst is when it gets halfway through an upload and quits, only for you to find out in the morning. But lately its been fairly reliable with the new SmugMug uploader.

I still can't get the LightRoom SmugMug Plugin to work, fails after 2-3 photo's.

If you need them to be the size that your uploading then the only advice is what people have already mentioned above. Find a way to get a faster upload connection. Call your ISP and see if you can upgrade your upload speed. I've been meaning to do that for weeks now, just never get around to it.

I batch upload 20 or 30 large pics at a time. Hit "Upload" and come back in a few hours. (DSL) It knows when to stop.

to speed it up i upload from 2-3 dif connections, heeheh unsecure wirerless FTW

My problem is with Comcast and their anti-filesharing software, not with SmugMug. If Comcast would just let it go at whatever speed they want to slow me down to instead of glitching the upload I'd have no problem. Many times I've gotten up in the morning to find that I've lost internet connection and the upload is still retrying after skipping a couple hundred photos. If I restart my router I can get the connection back. The simple uploader is best because it will tell me what photos didn't get uploaded so I can retry with the skipped photos.

I find it is better to split my uploads into smaller batches so I'm uploading one group of photos while I'm working on the next group. I can then monitor the upload with all but the final group.

I upload a TON of files to smugmug... just drag and drop all of them, and hit upload with the simple version of the uploader. It will do its thing while you get coffee or edit/proof other images.

I think I have over 20k files uploaded to them!
