I just ordered another 85 1.8 and a circular polarizer is a must for it since i do alot of automotive photography. And since i'm starting to get into portraits, i'd figure i'd give this kit a try. I have a HOYA SHMC for my Tammy so i havent tried Tiffen products. Just wondering if they are any good and if this kit looks like a good one? Any info or opinions are appreciated.

Tiffen filters aren't generally considered to be anywhere near as good as the good Hoya, B+W or Heliopan ones.

Really no reason to...Jon pretty much nailed it. The reality is, good filters are expensive...poor quality filters will result in poor quality pictures.

Besides the polarizer, what would you use the other two filters for? Round GND's are pretty useless since you're unable to adjust the graduation line without having to change your composition, and what is a "Pro Mist" filter? I'd stay away from this...you can get a very good, high quality 58mm polarizer (B+W or Hoya) for half the price of this Tiffen set. In this case, you're basically spending $95 for a polarizer (since the other two in the kit don't have much benefit). TBH...the polarizer is also suspect...just what is "white water glass"?

For some very good prices on B+W and Hoya filters, try this link (many folks here and on FM by their filters from this source):

For example, try this link for a 58mm Hoya CPL:

Tiffen is not a good filter, look at B+W to start. They are top of the line.

Like Jon said.

Stick with Hoya, B+W or Heliopan but in all three cases make sure you have the right letters as the base products for all three are only single coat designs.

Unfortunately...

Tiffen filters which were once the standard of the industry are no longer top-line.

Hoya-Pro, B&W, Singh-Ray or B&W (Schneider) are the choice now!

You can get a better price (although still expensive) on these filters by ordering from Hong Kong.

If going for B+W make sure you get the MRC (Multi-Resistant Coating) whatever.

The Kaeseman is humidity sealed to be more robust in high humidity environments.

If going for Hoya get the SHMC.

It's spelled "Tiffen" but it's pronounced "Sh*t." ;)

Go for Heliopan SH-PMC, B+W SMC F-Pro or Hoya/Kenko Pro1.
