Ok, I have have going through almost every thread here regarding camera brackets and from my understanding, if you want a budget camera/flash bracket, stroboframe should do the job and if you really want the best, then a Newton. The price reflects this....(this is not a blanket statement).

Now, I think I have decided I'm going to get it over with and just get a newton. Period! The question is which newton should I get?

1. I would like to use it with my 40D with BP (battery pack).
2. Using it with a 580ex II.

What model number specifically and is there anything other "accessory" that I need (i.e. anti-twist plate, etc.)?

Newtons fundamentally come as Camera rotator or Flash rotator. First pick that. Then, there is the other consideration of the folding bracket (which improves compact storage volume) or not.

Call Robert Newton and talk to him about your specific equipment and what works best. He provides a lot of advice. www.newtoncamerabrackets.com (external link) has has phone number, I think in FL.

I guess the next question is advantages between camera vs flash rotator? I would think the camera rotator is better....?

It is very much a matter of individual preference! I have a flash rotator, and I do not have a great need to ever switch to a camera rotator. Some who use their cameras in Portrait orientation on a tripod think that a Camera rotator is better for that situation. It doesn't bother me to use a flash rotator in that situation.

Due to added mechanism for camera rotator, plus the tripod mounting base, it is 50% heavier than the flash rotator...12.5 vs. 8.5 oz.
