Hi Everyone!

Up until this point I have mainly photographed weddings and don't have much experience with studio work/lighting.

A friend (who is paying veryminimal) asked me to come take some head/portfolio shots for her hair salon for their website. They don't really have a big budget but they want to have an internet presence.

At first I was under the impression she wanted shots around the studio, and photos of her doing hair/makeup.. but she actually wants a backdrop and more formal/posed shots.

She requested a black backdrop which I have.. As far as lighting goes.. I have 2 lights with umbrellas and one reflector and my 580EX II.

Just wondering what the best setup would be as far as where to position the lights and if they will be ok using black as she requested.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be EXTREMELY greatful! She just changed things up on me last minute.. I'm going to try to read up on it.. But if you have a lot of experience and knowledge in studio lighting, I'd very much appreciate your input!

Thanks in advance!!!

Do a search for "Lightingman" and settle in for a long night. You'll find more than you need and be amazed at his advice.
