Not my best by a long way as huge crowds and last minute arrival of TOGS meant positions were restricted. Anyway a few of my favourite riders.

To be more specific, accredited photographers on the other side of the fencing, who arrive at the last minute and stand directly in front of you!

Nice shots,

For Donington these are good positions, where were you standing?

1, 2, 4 and 8 - Esses
3 and 6 - Bottom of Craner, just before the old hairpin
5 and 7 - Outside of Redgate, at the start of Craner

Lovely set of shots. Good that you've captured the riders leaning right over on the corners.

Nice shots, the TOGS should be more considerate as we all have to start somewhere!

Hi Celtic. Thanks for the comments. Yes, all taken with my Sigma 500mm and mostly Canon 40D. Also use a Canon 1D mk IIN but I prefer the 1.6x that the 40D offers to get me a bit closer still.

Shutter usually between 500 and 800. Usually autoexpose but this week-end I played around with manual settings with variable degrees of success. Most were shot through wire fencing so kept the aperture down to less than F8.

Cheers.

LoL there are words for people like you who can get shots like that through a wire fence... some would call it skilled I call you a git :D ;)

Great shots, what I like about them most is the fact that shots like that are not just privy to the guys in the media jackets... gives new starters and amateurs hope.

Do you ever use the 100-400L IS for the bikes?

Depends on the circuit. This week is Mallory Park where you can get very close and not much fencing so definitely use the 100-400mm more than the 500mm.
..and thanks for the comments :)
