I decided to hit the links on my day off on Friday. I played one of DC's public courses near RFK stadium, Langston GC. The weather was great and the golf wasn't too bad either. It was my first time on the course this year and fired a nine-over 81. Not Tiger's caliber, but I did honor my username, by making two birdies. (BRDEMKR = birdie maker....not "bride maker" or "bread maker" ).

I brought along my Canon 710IS point and shoot, and had a bit of fun with the macro function....

First, the beginning of the scorecard with the birdies:

Now let the fun begin. I'm heading to the 16th, a 540yd Par 5, at 6 over par. I tee up the ball from the blues.

I crush my 1987 vintage titanium shafted Taylor Made 9.5 degree driver down the middle. With 270 yards remaining, I pull out my Taylor Made "Raylor" utility wood. I proceed to duff it 100yds down the fairway. Oops! Still looking for birdie, I smash a high 5-iron into the wind heading right for the flag. Not enough club for the wind, and here's where it landed. Laying 3:

Knowing my sand wedge will bounce into the ball, I closed the face of of the club to help it dig in and swung away. After the sand cleared, I'm laying 4:

Another angle:

I three putt for a double bogey.:lol:

Interesting series. I see you chart your fairways and greens hit. Do you keep a spreadsheet or similar to track your stats?

Didn't think about the ball writing for the photos, I was more concerned about getting the ball in focus with the point and shoot. And not slowing down play.

Old habit.. I used to keep track, but I don't play enough anymore to really see any trends in my play. The main thing I pay attention to anymore is the bottom stat...number of puts. I try to keep them under 36!

Thanks. I didn't cover up the pars on purpose...you can figure it out by noticing the superscript on the putts...that's the running number of shots under/over par. I'm not that crafty. :p

From Windows, It's done by either:

  1. Selecting the copyright symbol from the Character Map, hitting Copy, then pasting it. To open Character Map, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.

  2. OR by typing Alt+0169 (Hold down the alt key while typing the 0169)
Hope that helps!

I was just curious.

Many, many moons ago, I had a piece of software that (IIRC) came free with a Golf Magazine subscription and it was pretty slick.

You could go as simple as GIR, Fairways and putts or you could get into serious detail charting distance and direction for every club in the bag.

It did a very nice job tracking stroke average on par 3s, 4s and 5s, sand saves, up and downs, etc...

You could really bend, fold and mutilate your whole game if you were so inclined.
