I have some dust particles under my LCD plastic cover on the Actual LCD screen glass. Has anyone any advice on whether i should send it to Canon for repair or not?

I have had the camera 8 months, but don't want to send it away in the middle of the summer! How long does it take to come back?

Also, is this normal and will it be covered under warranty? Has anyone else had this problem?

Why not clean it yourself? The plastic cover can be removed with a small suction cup, according to those who have replaced them. It's held on with double-sided tape.

If it really upsets you, you can remove the lcd cover by heating it a bit with a hair dryer and removing it with a suction cup. Clean it then press it back on.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Uhhhh. is that a joke or are you unhappy with them trying to help you.

But, personally, I wouldn't worry about it

I just got out all five of my Canon digital cameras and every single one has dust under the back LCD cover, including my brand new, less-than-a-week-old 40D. It just a fact of life and nothing to obsess over.

If it bothers you that much and you have suction cups and a blow dryer, you should just clean it yourself. My 40D LCD has dust but it doesn't bother me at all.

Bloody 'ell JW, what are you doing with them!? I've just checked my two 400D's, my 40D and my 5D and not one of them has any dust under the LCD cover. Now intrigued, I also checked my other DSLR's (Nikon, Canon, Olympus) and they haven't any dust either. I can only assume you live in one dusty area on your side of the pond.

Instead of trying to remove the stick on plastic from my 20D, I found a detail how to remove the entire rear cover. It involved a few screws on the bottom and under the rubber grip on the back. It took about 10 minutes and I was able to blow out all the dust in side the back and wipe the back of the LCD cover and the LCD glass with my microfiber lens cloth. It worked great and I didn't have to worry about the double stick tape.

I also don't have a suction cup...

Sounds interesting. I don't suppose you took any pictures of the process?

if it's the lcd, don't bother, you don't need the lcd to take photos:rolleyes:

better to leave it rather than taking apart an expensive camera for something that is trivial

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

No my camera was taken apart. :)I'll try and find the detail drawings I used and maybe I'll try it again... now that I have a second body to photograph the process.

Yes it is trivial, but it really bothered me. Especially since the lcd on a 20D is really small.

It is normal I would just let it be.
BTW this is a good indicator of the "age" of a camera, people selling cameras can reset the counter to zero but they usually don't take the job of cleaning the LCD dust.
