I bought my daughter an A85 for Christmas as a last minute gift. I had never even held a compact digital camera in my hand, so I didn't know anything about it. She got this camera because I want a new 1gig card and could giver her one of my 512 cards and it was really on sale at the camera shop. I really didn't explore the features, I just said, I'll take one.

It is so cool. It does a lot of fun stuff -movies, pano pictures, B/W etc. I want one now.

the A85 is really nice and they fit in you pocket great little cameras for taking candid photos, My first canon was the A40 or something it was a 3mg. I still have my G3 just for the features and the fact it's so compact. Did you check out the A95 similar to the A85 but 5mg and has the flip out LCD which is a great feature.

here's a link to check out

Have fun, Oh and don't forget that on the A series cameras you can get a telephoto and wide angle lens.
