The old 'mill' just outside the ghost town of Crystal, Colorado, is not really a mill but used to supply compressed air to the mines in the area over a hundred years ago. The air was piped to the mines and was also used to power the large stamping plant that used to stand just the right of the mill.

The mill is also know as 'Dead Horse Mill', 'Lost Horse Mill' and 'Crystal Mill'. It is the most photographed structure in the state of Colorado and has one of the most difficult 4x4 roads to get there. A high clearance 4 wheel drive is required to get there and it takes about 1 1/2 hours to go the four miles to the mill. It's worth the trip.

The first image is from fall a couple of years ago and the second image is a three shot stitch from two springs ago.

Nice shots, Ron. The mill is a special place, indeed. One of my favorite photos was taken below the waterfall.

I LOVE that place! My dad took me and my brother up there... years ago. I took a shot of that place with a film P&S... I wonder where that picture is...

Great shot!

Nice image. Yeah, I like to shoot at river level also when the spray from the falls isn't drenching my gear.

Very nice. Images are a bit soft for me.

A similar photo was one of the highest rated photos on photo.net:

Thanks. Yeah, the web version is very soft.

I've seen the images in the links and they are awesome. I might have to try something like that with the 5d this summer.
