Nice way of illustrating dof :) Looks like it's leaning a little to the right, and mirror the image! lol, maybe it's just me being obsessive compulsive...

It is also leaning slightly forward or back----the printing around the bottom of the lens is the most in-focus part of the shots, in all three. Maybe to obtain focus, you leaned it, or is the mirror at an angle?

Ah yes, it is leaning to the right...oops...didn't notice that before...

Just mirrored it and fixed the lean...and the focus was the top writing on the lens... I replaced the originals with the edited ones above...

Thanks for the comments thus far...any better or worse now?

I really like these, it's a very clever idea!! The first is my favorite, I think.

This went a long way towards helping me understand aperture! I can read about it 100 times, but this really made something click for me! Thanks...good shots. :)

Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I take nothing for granted - so, I hope everyone noticed what the aperture itself looks like in each shot.

The "rest of the story" is that when the physical size of the aperture changes as shown in his series of three shots, the light passed through to the sensor varies in proportion to the square of the diameter of the aperture. Looking at the 3 different aperture sizes, it looks like they have relative values of about 45 mm, 21 mm and 5 mm, which means that the aperture in the second shot is passing approximately 1/4th the amount of light as the first shot, and the aperture in the 3rd shot is passing about 1/80th the amount of light as the first shot. That also means that the 2nd shot is stopped down about 2 stops or to f/2.8 while the third shot is stopped down about 9 stops to about f/32.

Yes, this is a great teaching tool. I love the idea of the series. I wish I had seen this back when I couldn't figure out the that a smaller number in the aperature setting created a greater depth of field.
