For some reason when I have to shoot with a 3 song rule I get all flustered and basically suck. I think my Republic Tiger shots are okay, but my skills vacated me for the Nada Surf set...I think the spot I picked maybe wasn't the best (no pit).

The Republic Tigers, as it turns out, are actually pretty good. If you like Mew or The Shins check them out for sure. Nada Surf, of course, is a great band and has been getting some pretty good press/indie acclaim since the 00's rolled around.

Okay...I'll stop carpet bombing POTN with new threads now.

peace,
-drew

Yeah, the lighting was great. I'm going to try to hit this venue a little more often I think.
I just didn't feel like I had it together for this set though...probably had something to do with the fact that I was stuck with one 2 gig cf card and my 5D (I had shot Nada Surf at an in store gig immediately before the show). You know it was just one of those nights where I was able to get a couple keepers maybe, but I could have done much better.
Thanks for the comments and feedback.

once i got my 5D, i got a 4GB CF...2 GB w/ those file sizes doesn't give much capacity.

my 5D is acting up enough for me to send it back to Canon after i get done shooting Devo next week (keep getting Err 01 messages; during the Swervedriver show it actually stopped working all together).

Yeah, I need to take advantage of those Sandisk rebates before they're over.

Thats too bad about your 5D...I've never heard of error 01. Hopefully it's something that Canon can take care of without too much trouble.
I was actually having problems with my 35L today...didn't get a single shot in focus. I don't know if it's me or what, but sometimes that lens is dead on and other times I get nothing but consistently backfocused shots. Oh well, that's life I guess.

no. 1 and 7 are the best as far as conventional shots go.

When I shoot 3 songs I often find it boring since I am basically just shooting the bands warmup. I find myself yelling in my head BE INTERESTING FFS.

Don't be flustered, with experience 3 songs is plenty of time - especially if the band is standing there like a stale bottle of piss. That said the best bands will never give you enough time to shoot them, even if it's the whole set =P

Also take more than a 2 gig card, I usually shoot on 4 gig cards and 1 4 gig is usually plenty for 3 songs. But when you're working against the clock, card changes are NOT good.
