Welcome to the forum.
I am sure you will get a lot of answers to that question.

FWIW I have a 17-40 f/4 L that I use if I am shooting landscape. Great lens IMHO sharp as a tack and produces great color.

I suppose you could add this one in for the price?

I second the 17-40L but what camera are you using? 17mm on a crop camera is ~28mm FF equivalent. If you're using a crop camera and want to shoot mostly landscapes then the Canon 10-22 is good and I've heard good things about the Sigma 10-20 as well.

I just used the 17-40 today and it's almost too wide on the 5D. I used it on my 20D for a long time and it is the sharpest lens outdoors I've used.

Once again, I'll recommend exactly what I have, as I like it. Start with Sigma's 24-70mm f/2.8. It's an excellent lens, at a very reasonable price and the focal length shouldn't cramp you outside. When possible, add the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 to it, and you're set for wide to short telephoto. Down the road, add Sigma's 70-200mm f/2.8 and their APO 2X teleconverter, and you can range from 12 to 400mm with minimal lens swapping (and dust problems).

Outdoor: Tokina 12-24mm f/4; Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8; Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8; 2X APO T/C; Sigma 105mm Macro; Indoor: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8; Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8; Canon 50mm f/1.8; Body: Canon 50D & 350D

Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 17-50

I recently choose the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 as my official landscaping lens. The range from 17 to 35mm is perfect for landscapes and the lens is super sharp.
The siggy 10-20 is great too in fact you will probably want a wide angle and ultra wide angle if you like landscaping as I do.

i agree. too wide and too short. for me the 17-40L is a niche lens on FF so i find myself not using it.

on the mark III the lens is perfect :D.

For wide-angle landscapes on a 1.6x, the Canon EF-S 10-22 is where it's at.

I don't know why cheapness is always associated with bang for buck, but I vote Tamron 17-50
