As El Sigmundo is the only wide zoom I have ever used I cannot tell if it offers the most BFTB but I did take this with it the other day:

I apologoize if there is already on here for this topic, but im just looking for the best landscape lense for my xti for the best price. thank you

Hi and welcome.

Guess you mean best landscape lens at a (price). All the lens mentioned are great but not cheap. If you want one that is cheap then you could try the Tamron 17-35 SP Di. (Yeah I know.... crop body etc), but I have one and it has produced some great results. It is now an 'older' lens so buying secondhand (£100) on average doesn't break the bank. It is extremely well made, sturdy and feels great on a 400D.

At about a third of the cost of its nearest rival I think it is value for money. I did search this forum and there are examples on here.

Good luck anywho.

I would recommend the Tokina 11-16 but I am not sure they really exist. Somthing like the holy grail at this point. At least in the US. I am hearing good things abouit the sigma 10-20 also. Of course the Canon 10-22 but at a much higher cost.

Best bang to buck on crop tokina 12-24, built like a tank and takes excellent pictures. 17mm on a crop body is not a landscape lens...

I don't know why cheapness is always associated with bang for buck, but I vote Tamron 17-50

Because of the law of diminishing returns…

I always want C&C on my shots.

On of the best ultra-wide angle lenses for landscapes on a crop body is the EF-S 10-22. however since it has a fairly slow aperture the tokina 11-16 is a nice option as well; being a f/2.8 lens it can be used indoors as a low-light single subject lens (I say single wunject because the depth of field you get with f/2.8 is fairly shallow). IMO the tokina is the best back for the buck since it provides more than one use for the ultra-wide catagory. The tokina 12-24 or 11-16 are both great lenses, the 12-24 is easier to find since it's a design that's been around for a little while, whereas the 11-16 is fairly new and few shops still have it in stock, they fly off the shelves.

I'm afraid I can't agree with that. Maybe 17mm is not a landscape lens for you, but it certainly is for a lot of people. I've almost never wished for anything wider than 17mm, but I've sometimes wished for something longer than the 70mm of my usual landscape lens. 12mm would be OTT for me.

I'd recommend the Sigma 17-70mm if ultra-wide is not your thing. It's only real weakness is if you use it wide open, but that's not a real issue for a landscape lens. Stopped down a bit it's very sharp across the frame, and colour/contrast is excellent.

If you need a wider angle you can always stitch several pics together if you can't afford several lenses, sharpness is more important IMHO, a soft landscape is really unappealing.

too wide and too short. for me the 17-40L is a niche lens on FF so i find myself not using it.

Same here, but too wide? Canon never told you to flick it all the way to 17mm, did they?

i think he was referring to the long end of the range being too short or at least, that's the only logic i could make out of it.

the 17-40 4L has been my least favorite purchase so far. everyone's opinion varies.

i honestly think the 14mm 2.8L II would make for the best landscape lens. as we most of us know though, this big bang comes at the equivalent buck.
