That Tri-X Look

I don't want to dwell on the past but I've been playing around in CS2 trying to get a Tri-X look..I used a heap of Tri-X when shooting film and still love the look..

You have seen this image before but with a few changes..

Nice shot, great expression, but I can't see past the posterization in the background bokeh.

Yes, the posterization in the one without grain is more noticeable than the posterization in the one with the film-grain effect.

In my opinion, the real problem, though, is that the grain in the filmgrain effect is not sharp.

In my old Tri-X prints the grain is very sharp. In this filmgrain effect the grain is soft and looks more like reticulation. All of which is probably due to the low resolution we are seeing in the downsized images. In other words, if we were looking at the full resolution image or at an 11" x 14" print of the filmgrain rendition, we would probably get a better Tri-X effect.

Without noise, it's a really spectacular shot!

You should check out Alien Skin Exposure 2. It does a killer job of emulating film.
