Has anybody conducted a side-by-side comparison of 20D to the 5D?

I've had my 20D for three or so years now and would like to step up.

I know the sensor size differences, but since the 5D has the the next generation sensor, I would like to hear an unbiased firsthand comparison in overall image quality.

All the other bells & whistles are not too important to me. I'm all about image quality at this stage.

Thanks

Well, the 5D is the simply the best when compared to any crop sensor camera, and even to many FF cameras. Even Ken Rockwell raves about it.

In short, IQ is incredibly good. It easily beats the 40D, let alone the 20D.

Kind regards, Wim

i went from the 20d to the 5d. the IQ is better with the 5d and that's something you notice right off. iso handling is at least a stop better too.

I had the 5D, 20D combo for a year and upgraded to the 40D. The 5D is still the one I reach for and prefer. The colors and IQ from the 5D are amazing for the price, so good for what I do. But, if I had the money to upgrade again, I'd have to wait for the new model to come out. If it's any good, I'll be selling my 40D.

I just recently went from a 20D to a 5D...I have only taken ten pictures with me 20D in two months since having the 5D. IQ, colors, iso, lcd... It's all so much better.

my 40D is gathering dust, despite its advanced bells and whistles.

Only reasons I reach for my 30D are
(1) need for the popup flash for indoor 'family' snap shots, or
(2) when I need the extra reach with my 100-400mm for birds.

I have the 430 EX II and the 5D Mk II on my shopping list, removing both reasons, so I'll probably end up giving the 30D to my dad.

Concur in that I compared the 40D to the 5D before purchasing either... It was a landslide in favor of the 5D for what I shoot... Got the 5D and never thought twice about getting a 40D...

The 20D performed very respectably!

ISO tests are very nice things. Go shoot the cameras and look at the pictures. The 5D images are obviously much nicer. It's not a difficult thing to see.

With all due respect, taking one picture of various cameras is hardly enough to race to judgement on... I've seen alot of reports to the contrary of Jason's study... No disrespect to Jason certainly though!

i know with the 5d and 1d mark III i'll shoot at iso 1600 without hesitation and i seldom use any NR.

not so with the 1.6 croppers that i've owned.
