Does anybody here know if it will have simliar functions and features to that of the Nikon D300? And when it will come out? I love the 5D but its features are antiquated and I will not even consider buying it because of those issues.

Good point, the 5D is an absolute dinosaur and it's totally unusable for modern-day photography!

Which features are antiquated? I'd take a 5D over a D300 any day. D3 maybe not, but the D300 doesn't temp me a bit.

Of course, none of us can really give you anything beyond wild guesses on a 5D replacement as far as timing, price and features.

What features are antiquated? I need to know so that I can stop using them.

this should go in rumors section... until canon announces something

and no, 5d won't be replaced until canon needs to, either by their own line needing it or a competitor made something that is actually better than the 5d (no, d300 doesn't count, it's only 1.5 crop). in other words, if the 5d continues selling as well as it has, canon has no need nor desire to introduce something "better", rather they will just find ways of making the 5d cheaper to produce so they can either increase their margin or increase the number of sales.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Yeah, nobody can tell you when the 5D will be replaced or what 'modern features' it's replacement will have.

Personally, I don't give a fig for fancy features. I'm only interested in the quality of the images that the camera produces and the 'antiquated' 5D kicks the backside of just about any 'modern' camera this side of the 1Ds III (and even then, it's damn close).

I won't be rushing out to buy the replacement, I'll just live with the antiquated features of my clearly obsolete 5D.:rolleyes::lol:.

It may not have the latest bells and whistles, but it plays a DAMN good tune :D

Antiquated is the incorrect word to use. But for a professional or semi professional camera, I would expect features such as:
- different image formats, JPEG and RAW are nice but what about other formats like sRAW?
- More Pixels per its LCD screen than the 230,00 it already has. Nikon has more pixels (I forget the actual count) it makes the display look like a MacIntosh monitor.
- DIGIC III To pump more RAW images and to focus faster especially when engaged in sports or action photography.
- Frames Per second should at least equal the 40D. 3FPS is a joke.
- More AF points. Nikon D300 has 51 which is totally customisable. 5D has only 9 but 6 supplemental.

Do not get me wrong. The 5D takes some stunning pictures better than the Nikon D300 especially when mounted with a L series lens and I can not complain because I only have a 30D with stock lens 28mm-135mm and would love to purchase the 5D BUT when I purchased the 30D, six to 8 months later the 40D came out, I will not make that mistake again.

I am not a troll, but I am new on the board, I started photography back in the 1980s with a Pentax SLR film. I brought a 30D last year but almost a year later the 40D came out so I felt cheated. I do not see much of a IQ difference between the two (my opinion) but the 5D is a lot more expensive and I would be ANGRY if I brought the 5D when the 6D comes out 8 months later. I would not be happy.

I use that excuse every time I trade my GF in for a new model.

I use a 5D along side a 40D. I can't think of any antiquated features on the 5D. The main diff between the two is 5D IQ is much better and, of course, it's FF. In most other ways they're about the same. I do like the slightly larger 'n brighter LCD os the 40D a little better but no biggie. Ah dunno, maybe some guys miss the Basic Zone (Sports, Portrait) but I've never used it. I do wish the 5D had ECF and DEP but those are "antiquated features" of the 90s...

I brought a 30D last year but almost a year later the 40D came out so I felt cheated.

Everything is like that: cars, computers, clothing, TVs, even people. Live with it. There's always "new 'n improved" around the corner. When the 5D MKII or 4D or whatever they call it arrives, it will likely be an evolutionary upgrade and nothing to cry over if you own an antiquated 5D.

Useless

- More Pixels per its LCD screen than the 230,00 it already has. Nikon has more pixels (I forget the actual count) it makes the display look like a MacIntosh monitor.

Useless - if you can read the histogram you have all the useful data you are gonna get from the LCD.

- DIGIC III To pump more RAW images and to focus faster especially when engaged in sports or action photography.

Yep, this is the one thing most people are waiting for, but keep in mind that the IQ of the 5D with digic2 still bests the D300. Digic3 will be nice but it does not make the 5D uncompetitive.

- Frames Per second should at least equal the 40D. 3FPS is a joke.

I rarely find a fast frame rate to be of a huge advantage. 6.5 fps would be nice about once in a blue moon, and I'll certainly take the feature but this is really not a make or break for me.

- More AF points. Nikon D300 has 51 which is totally customisable. 5D has only 9 but 6 supplemental.

And finally you have nailed it. If I can get 1D AF system in a 5D I would die and go to heaven. This is why I think the Nikon D3 (not the D300) is a great camera. The question remains if Canon will ever be willing to put 1D level AF in a high end prosumer like the 5D.
