I did a little research and found a parking lot close to the local airport. There was a fence and blast wall blocking the view, so a nice, close shot was not possible. I just took my XTi and 70-300 IS. Next time, I'll take the 300 f/4 with the 1.4x.

Some of these were in Mode 1 IS, should have been in Mode 2 (duh!). Had to crop a lot, too.

Anyway, wanted to share a few here as part of the pleasure of photography for me is sharing here. I realize these are very ordinary, but I hope to improve, especially if I can locate a better spot to shoot from.

Hey there,
Nice clean shots, good sharp captures. I like taking shots of airliners, hey I get plenty of practice living in Atlanta. My own preference is for shots of aircraft coming towards me, (front quarter) rather than going away from me. Also, side on, profile shots are good. One other tip for prop diven aircraft is to try and keep the shutter speed low enough to get prop blur, rather than freezing the props as you have done on your last shot. You might want to have a look at this forum link.

airshow guys - prop freeze?

Thanks for the tips - good stuff to remember. The view of the incoming craft was even more restricted than the takeoffs. Here's an example - major crop.

RCoulter: Yep, MSP.

Yes,
I know the feeling, its often difficult to find a good spot, and that's even before the police find you and move you on. Like the angle on this one. Keep at it, its a challenge!
