I just used the greyscale conversion tool in Paintshop Pro 9.0. I then used the dodge and burn tool to dark and lighten up areas. Nothing major other than playing around with those tools and trying to control the highlight and shadows.

I loved the color version for two years, but playing around with black and white, I actually think the B&W one makes a stronger statement to me and also it brings out so much more detail in the image.
