Bruce aka Ballen Photo introduced a handy tool called TinEye (external link) for finding similar pictures in the web.

I signed up some days ago and installed FF plugin.

Guess what? A minute ago I found that this is here (external link). And if you just right-click the picture ...

Now it's time to send an email, but what should I say in that?

That really stinks, and it's coincidental because we were just discussing image theft and web sites in another thread.

Tell them it is your copyrighted image and you would like to negotiate the terms of use.

Seriously? And they've put a protected no right-click copyright on it? Is that pathetic? Wow.

Good luck. .. I've been fighting for 20 years re: US copyright violations. w/no compensation. The most gratification I've gotten was "cease and desist". (when they stop using the images)

Because of your location & theirs, I would think that you would have to find either 1) an international copyright atty to *try* to get a judgement in your favor in court ...(collecting on that judgement is a whole other ball of wax) or 2) look up the statutes on international law regarding copyright .. or 3) get real lucky that they would 1)even listen or respond to you personally and/or 2) offer any type of compensation. You will, of course, have to provide proof that you are the author of the work .. (probably to their atty). .. You will also probably need to deal, not with the hotel, but with the corporation that owns the hotel. ... who, most likely has a team of staff attys.

Maybe TinEye has an outline of procedures with links to international copyright laws. (?)

This is exactly why I've started putting obnoxous watermarks across a lot of my photos that show on the net.

If you post your work online you basically have ZERO protection.

And if you do confront the people the most they will do is remove the image and use another person's image in it's place. Good luck trying to get any money or filing any legal action.....

So what's the solution?

STOP POSTING YOUR WORK ON THE INTERNET IF YOU DON'T WANT IT TO GET STOLEN, or put a huge ugly watermark on your images.

I don't know why people find this soo difficult to comprehend

Its easy why they can't comprehend it....

Its like asking a retail store to remove all their products from the shelves because people will steal it.

Say what ????
Its counter intuitive!

Yeah a lot of retail stores with items of value do not keep their product on the shelves. Instead they use dummies or empty boxes for display.

Maybe we should take note, don't put your best of the best product that you hope to earn a lot of money from on the internet. Because guess what, it's gonna get stolen. Instead put up some of your old work or some of your less great images. Don't be afraid, clients will still hire you. And they will be even more impressed when they come to your studio and see your amazing great work of art hanging on your walls instead of thrown somewhere on your website.... or in this case, someone elses!

Wow that sucks.. And I'm with the others.. I dont think you're going to get much out of them.. They'll probably just remove it, and ignore any further attempt at contact.. If nothing else happens, you can always take it as a high form of flattery :)

Its so unfortunate when people take images like that.. Its not that hard to drop someone an email and ask.. Nice photo though :)

I wonder who took all the other photos on their homepage and if they're stolen too!

It's a sad day when we have to start watermarking our work on here.

It is sad but I think we need to watermark our work until some fix can be found. :(
