Well, I'm thinking of picking up another strobe this week. Either plan on getting a AB1600/ White Lightning 1600 or dip my foot into the "better" lighting. Elinchrom Dlite 4 seems to offer great value for the $$$

What do you guys think?

Any cons against the D Lite 4? What are some of the negatives?

champ, i just bought the d-lite 4 kit and i gotta say i am 100% happy with it (although i can't speak for the AB1600)

the only issue i had was putting the softboxes together (very stiff and not something i want to do too often)

I think the White Lightning is a notch above the other two because of its switchable capacitors for a greater range of power.

Of the other two, the Alienbees get knocked for inconsistent output at the low end and changes in color temperature throughout the power range. My opinion: It's generally not noticeable but it is measurable, if you're the measurbating type.

The D-Lites get knocked for their longer flash duration. Not a problem in the studio but the slower shutter speed required might give you fits outdoors.

Honestly, I think the choice should be made based on available accessories/modifiers and whichever user interface you prefer.
