Hi,

Recently I've got Canon Xsi and looking for tripod. My criteria is below.

1. Around 70" tall
2. Support around 15lb
3. $100 ~$200 price range
4. quick release

I got price quote from B&H

Slik 700DX $84.95
486RC2 $69.95
Bushings $4.95
---------------
Total = $159.85+S&H

Do I need to buy bag for tripod? My camera bag has a strap for hanging tripod on it. I'm not sure how useful it is though.

Please, give me some feedback.

Thanks.

I have the Slik 700DX and have found it to be an excellent, sturdy tripod, particularly for the relatively low cost. I use the Bogen 322RC2 Grip Action Ballhead on it but the 486RC2 is very good and is popular on this and other forums. As for the bag, I have the Slik bag for this tripod and find it useful for storage and transporting the rig. It's a bit heavy for a camera bag strap. I used this with my XT and now use it for my 40D. I also got it from B&H.

"1. Around 70' [as in feet?] tall"

These are known a giant redwood trees. :)

I think you meant 70" (inches) tall?

I know what you meant, I find myself making the same typo many times as I deal with dimensions often during the day.

i bought my 700dx with the pan/tilt head because it comes with the bag, and a bogen 488rc2. i'll use the pan/tilt if i ever need to do video, and prefer using a ballhead. the QR plates fit perfect on the 70-200 tripod mount also
