It was on our garage door, and this was the only shot I was able to get. At first, I thought maybe a dragonfly or damsel, until I looked at it close. When it flew away, it was clumsy and a weak flier. Any ideas? I've looked through a little of bugguide.net, but frankly I'm too tired to do much digging.  Elizabeth

Oh yeah, it was probably 2-3 inches long.
- think ant lion/owlfly family is correct.
