Here are a couple from last night. C&C appreciated as always. Please keep in mind the tonal range has been adjusted for print.

Too much contrast?
Too dark?
Too blue?
Nothing to look at?
What's lacking?

Throw me a bone guys n gals. It doesn't always have to be ooh's and ahh's, I can take it. I'm still trying to learn like everyone else :)

Just got here Chris;)

First one, I would rather not see the foreground...I want my eye drawn to the mountains.which came out excellent.

Second.not so much..I like your brighter photos I think...

I agree partially with Flo; I'd take about 20% off the bottom so the rocks don't go all the way across and it is a stronger horizontal crop. Nice shot! Were the colors really that strong?

Thank you both.

Gail: I kinda figured they were a bit too dark as well. As for the foreground; I want to include some, but I don't think this is what I'm looking for. I need to poke around the location more to find something of interest to include. I hope to get back there within the next few days to try again from a different vantage point.

Again, thank you for the responses!

What they said and I like em. Is that out by the Pirate ship?..The point?...the Anchor?
I'm on my first coffee so the other brain cell hasn't kicked in yet.

I've done that Flo, got a thing for threes so I carried around 3 bull rushes all day.

I didn't type my response fast enough :)

The crop is a 4:3 because I'm looking to create the center panel of a triptych 2:3 4:3 2:3.

My next trip I'm not going to fully extend my tripod, and try to put the horizon in the top third. Hopefully this will reduce the overall amount of empty water in the scene, but I still need to find a good point of interest in the foreground.

Of course the colors weren't that strong, this is me we're talking about :) To be honest the original scene was quite dissapointing. A couple nights I was out without my camera, and the sunset was absolutely spectacular. The three nights I did go out, it almost went blue -> grey -> black. My patience will be rewarded some day I'm sure.

Hah, I know that feeling. I'm not much of a landscaper but my last trip around the island, the sunset looked like it was going to be spectacular. I was all set-up and then an hour before, a rain storm rolled in and greyed it all out.

black and white baby :)

It's straight out from the Maritime Museum. It's a nice clean peninsula to shoot the sunset, but it's a little too clean. I think I'll try somewhere up on Jericho to see if I can find something there.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a nice diagonal with something of interest to lead the viewer into the shot. Trying to keep the foreground element from being too static.

As Flo said... start packing driftwood :) If you're popping the colors anyway, who cares if the foreground was placed?

Hahah I have no shame in altering my images :)

The last thing I'll ever claim to be is a photojournalist. My dream is to produce photographic art so I make the images look the way I feel when I take them. My feeling of dissapointment in the sunset when I took the shots is probably why I ended up processing it so dark.

This is the general idea I'm working towards. Of course I'd be using a different panel on the left (not just a mirror of the right).
So the elements in the side panels can work towards balancing an otherwise static center panel.
