I sold my beloved S3 over 6 months ago. I've been itching to have it back, So I contacted the lady I sold it to and she says that a few weeks ago it stopped reading the memory card.
She says the screen reads "no memory card". I want to buy it back, but I don't want to be stuck with an un-fixable camera. Please, if anyone knows what this is/how to fix it, help me out. Thanks so much!
Sam

Kind of hard to say at third hand. It could be the card, not the camera, or it could be cruddy contacts on either the card or the camera, or it could be something else altogether. If you could try it with a different card you might localize things some.

Hi there Sam. Long time no see! :) (well at least over at the s3 forum!)

Jon, gave you some good advice. You definitely have to try and eliminate some of the possibilities. I've read about this problem here and there and sometimes re-formatting the card works, taking out the batteries, cleaning the contacts on the card (carefully). Is the card SD or SDHC? I know the S3 can take both but who knows....Also, the SD card receptor area could be the problem...all it takes is something really tiny to get in there and obtruct the SD card from making a good connection with the receptor.

Hope you can get it working again Sam.

Hey, James! It's great to see you again...I feel bad for not visiting the S3 forum as frequently as I should...But there's just so much to read here!
I'm hoping it's not a big deal, but I'll ask her to try those things and see if it starts working again. How much do you think I should offer for an S3 in such a condition? (It's my original old beloved S3, mind you:) )

Here are the parameters:

1. You can buy a perfectly working S3 from Canon USA (external link) (i.e. refurb) with a 90 day warranty, with taxes and shipping for approx. $250. (that would be my upper end)

2. On eBay you can get a used S3 for about $200 - $225 before shipping (bidding - not buy it now)

3. Again on eBay, you can get an S3 for parts or with a known repair issue for about $50 to $100 depending on the issue.

In your case, if by "such a condition" then you'd have to factor in a possible repair cost of $175 to $200. In other words, you wouldn't be giving her a whole lot ($50 tops) if you really had to send it in for repair.

(or maybe you can get "soccplayer07" to sell you his on the S3 forum ;))

Good luck Sam. Let us/me know how it all works out.

Hey S-Man. I have had this same problem with my S3. I ended up selling it and buying a S5 to replace it. The S5 has been good to me thus far.
