When I transfer images from my CF cards to my PC, I use Cut and Paste. The images are gone from the card without any further steps.

I suppose you could copy & paste then go back and delete the images, but why go through the extra steps? It doesn't take any longer to cut than it does to copy.

Of course I could be totally missing the point again....

I have been searching for info about copy & paste but haven't found anything. Is there any quality loss by using copy & paste as opposed to just downloading from the camera or CF card. To me it seems the copy & paste has been the fastest way.

There should be no issues of quality loss no matter how you transfer the files. Which is fastest (when the connection type and hardware remains constant) might depend on how your OS handles various types of file transfers or if you use another program that gets in the way.

I've pretty much always used a card reader. I simply don't have the patience for the other method.

Card reader, of course. Only time the camera gets hooked up to the computer is to set name, sync time, or use Remote Capture.

Card reader, then import to new location in Lightroom. take out card and format in camera.

That is what I do, at least.

OK

I download with Camera, 2GB Ultra II cards, RAW files, I'm getting 264 sec for around 220 files, will a card reader make that much difference.

I can see the point if I have 3 full cards, just plug them in and not muck around with the camera, they still have to be formatted, is formatting best done on the PC or camera.

One more for Card Reader; faster, and doesn't use up my batteries. When you're importing 4+GB of RAW images off of a card you appreciate the speed.

I plug the camera in, Windows Vista imports and deletes the photos automatically. It's wonderful, just have to move the photos where I want and process, but thats it, a card reader is in my computer but it's hard to reach so I don't bother.

I'm still interested in some specs and cost to see if it's worth me buying one.

If it makes that much of a difference, it may be the way to go.

If you have an apple computer, get the firewire version. Much faster.

Format in camera. Since I shoot multiple bodies, I can be sure everything is working together as it should.

Don't have a Mac.

I always format in camera though, I was just wondering if a it's a few seconds or holy sh%t that's fast, type of difference with a card reader.

An extra few seconds would not swing it for me.
