Hey gang!
I did a shoot for a candidate running for state office here in Michigan and he like this shot -not one of my favs but he is the boss--- the problem is there is too much light from a window on the side of his face. Can this be repaired? Here is the RAW file-- let me know if you can assist.
Thanks!

This is not a raw file. It's a jpg.

Crud! I use photobucket and it looks like they convert the raw to jpeg! How do I post the raw version?

You can't really post the RAW without converting it. Unless you want to just host the file. Then all of us would need to convert it using our own software.

If the raw does look like that, I would say there is some things you could do to help it, but not make it perfect.

How does one get a 1.0 aperture anyways?

The photo looks a bit soft as well, and with a shutter speed of 1/8 I only hope you used a tripod so that isn't the issue...

About saving the image it's hard to tell from a small jpg photo, but unless it's completely blown there could be some improvement in restoring the shades/colors.

What do you mean? The aperture used in that photo is f/2.8, anyways, there are f/1.0 lenses, even sub-1 apertures such as f/0.95.

I have had good luck using the recovery slider in LR and adding some fill light. It is not perfect, but can make it acceptable.
Sorry, at work right now or I'd give it a go.

My exif viewer shows this:
Camera Make: Canon
Camera Model: Canon EOS 5D
Image Date: 2008:06:18 23:49:26
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 35.0mm
Exposure Time: 0.125 s (1/8)
Aperture: f/1.0
ISO equiv: 200
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: Manual

I was just curious. Never seen a < f/1.2 lens and didn't know one existed. Excuse my noobness. They must be expensive.

Looks pretty dang blurry to me. It will be hard to overcome that before even fixing the window light.

Weird... I used regex.info/exif.cgi (external link) which shows:
Camera:Canon 5D
Lens:35 mm
Exposure:Manual, 1/8 sec, f/2.8, ISO 200

Opera shows aperture "3", which is pretty close to 2.8 I guess.
lol @ hot the topic has turned into EXIF

Back on topic... it is hard for us to judge with such a low resolution jpeg. Have you checked to see if the RAW file contains enough information to put the details back in the blown out area? If not, I guess you'll be using the cloning tool a lot.

In ACR, drag down the exposure slider to recover the blown highlights on his face. Then adjust the brightness slider up a bit.

But forget about the blown highlight, that's a very blurry shot! Did you charge for this shoot?

1/8 of a second is too slow. that's why the picture is blurry.
