Hi everyone, novice DSLR user and first post/picture here.

I got my 450D last week and have been playing with the kit lens. Still getting to grips with all the bells and whistles after years with a Casio compact camera but took this photo in the garden which I'm fairly pleased with although it looks a tad soft to me.

I've got a 'nifty fifty' on order too which will be better for this kind of shot I guess.

Yes it does look a bit soft, but it's a great start.

Things will get better over time as you get to grips with it all.

Actually I revisited the sharpening on that shot after resizing it and it looks a little crisper now:
